Release Tenzin Delek Rinpoche
7th April is considered as Global Day of Action for the Release of Tenzin Delek Rinpoche. Tenzing Delek Rinpoche and his nephew Lobsang Dondrub; according to Students for Free Tibet (SFT) were sentenced to death on trumped up charges of crimes of terror and incitement to separatism. While Lobsang was executed shortly; Tenzing was arrested in Tibet in 2002 under these charges.
SFT is an organization working for the democratic rights of the Tibetans; having branches in many countries of the world. It is peacefully fighting for Tenzing’s release for the past 12 years. According to SFT, Tenzing Delek’s health condition is worsening by the day and it is demanding his unconditional release.
Following are the photographs of the press conference held on 7th April 2014 at the Dalai Lama temple in McLeod Ganj, Dharmashala in India. They were demanding his unconditional release from prison. The nuns of Dolma Ling had observed a one day fast as a mark of protest.
After documenting this protest, I was informed that Tenzing Delek passed away in prison on July 12th 2015 as informed to the family members of Tenzing by the Chinese police. Worse followed during the following days and on 16th July the prison authorities cremated it in secrecy without even bothering to hand over Tenzing’s body to his family for final rites. The family now suspects that he was murdered.
